On 15 March we’ll be hosting the Southwest’s CompassSport Cup heat, at Cooper’s Hill and Cranham East (near the area we used for our event on 1 Feb, but a completely different section of the map).
The CompassSport Cup is the UK’s premier inter-club orienteering competition. Heats take place in March, with winners qualifying for the final in October. Team members score points based on rankings on their respective courses; to calculate each club’s total, the best 25 scores from that club are added together (with some restrictions on how many scores can come from any given course).
Our aim is to get as many members taking part as possible. There’s no need to be fast – we don’t take it too seriously – and the main goal is to have an enjoyable and social day.
As usual, the club will be subsidising the entry costs for club members to be £5 for seniors, free for juniors. To enter, email captain Shirley Robinson at captain@ngoc.org.uk by 16 Feb with your name, age, SI number and any course preference (see below).
Courses: there are courses assigned to each age category:
1 | Brown | Men Open |
2 | Short Brown | M20- M40+ |
3 | Blue Women | Women Open |
4 | Blue Men | M50+ |
5 | Green Women | W20- W45+ |
6 | Green Men | M60+ |
7 | Veterans Short Green | M70+ W60+ |
8A | Junior Men (Green) | Men 18- |
8B | Junior Women (Short Green) | Women 18- |
9A | Orange Men | Men 14- |
9B | Orange Women | Women 14- |
10 | Short Green | M80+ W80+ |
You can also score points if you ‘run up’ an age class to a longer course. And if you’d like to have a run but don’t feel up to the course assigned to your age category, that’s also fine – as I mentioned above, we don’t take it too seriously! There will also be Yellow and White courses available for younger juniors, plus non-competitive Orange and Light Green courses available.
Competing teams
- Competing against us in the Cup (for ‘bigger’ clubs, with over 125 members): BOK (Bristol), DEVON, QO (Quantocks), BKO (Berkshire)
- We’ll also be welcoming 9 ‘smaller’ clubs for the Trophy: WSX (Wessex), KERNO (Cornwall), SOC (Southampton), SARUM (Salisbury), SBOC (Swansea Bay), WIM (Wimborne), SWOC (South Wales), NWO (North Wilts) and BADO (Basingstoke/Andover).
Note that due to CompassSport Cup rules, contactless mode (SIAC) will not be enabled at this event: it’ll be regular SI punching only.
