First of all, happy new year to everyone, and many thanks for coming to Edge today for our traditional start to the year. Huge thanks also to Hannah Bradley, planning her first event, Greg Best for mentoring and helping her in so many ways, and all the other people who lent a hand on the day – several of them non-orienteering family members.
We had a great turnout and by good fortune the one dry day we have had in what seems like weeks. Quite a few people cleaned up, with Jim Bailey ahead of the chasing pack with no fewer than 14 minutes of bonus points.
You can find the results on the new 2024 Results page, though there may still be one or two tweaks to them as we sort out a few anomalies and problems. We have consciously been lenient with occasional breaches of the odds and evens rule, though with small penalties in some cases; it was a fun event!
However, we were disappointed that a number of people ignored the out of bounds constraints, crossing fences and running on the road. These constraints are there for various reasons, in this case for your safety, for the planner’s peace of mind, and most importantly, in the case of fence crossings, to ensure that we retain the goodwill of the landowners upon whom we rely for access to areas such as this. So whilst we have taken no action on this, we hope those of you who broke the rules will reflect on your efforts today.
Finally, we have a pair of half specs found hanging in a tree near control 195, so if they are yours, email equipment ‘@’ ngoc.org.uk and we can arrange their return to you.
