Preliminary results from yesterday's Chairman's Challenge are now published on the Results page, pending any feedback or comments from runners.

Chairman Ian Jones writes:

I hope everyone enjoyed or at least got something out of the event. I have only run the ultra-sprint format once before and that was in urban parkland, so there was no certainty how it would translate to woodland and contours. Fortunately, Greg Best had built on an excellent original map created by Tom Cochrane during Covid lock down to create a really usable map at the unusual scale of 1:1,500. My initial concern was that everyone would find the event too easy, but I suppose that was with the benefit of walking around slowly mapping every feature on the map to something on the ground. In the event, it seemed to provide enough of a challenge, with about half of competitors making one mistake or another on each course. There were some tricky controls which were very close to others, and these were the source of most errors, but enough competitors got each one right for me to think there were none that were overly unfair. Perhaps it makes a good format for training to run to the feature in the middle of the circle? My thanks to Greg Best for the map and for arranging access permissions from local farmers, to Paul Bryce for figuring out how to set this format up onto the system and then run download, to Ginny Hudson for parking, to Pat MacLeod for logistics and helping check controls were being put in the right place, to Carol Stewart for her unflappable support at registration, and to Maggie and my Mum for catering on the day which I hope you found made the event a social one.
