For the second event in our summer Maprun series, we head to Churchdown, near Gloucester.
These events use the Maprun smartphone app to record visits to controls: you can find details of how to get set up with Maprun here.
The terrain will be a mixture of urban streets around Churchdown village (70%) and rural footpaths up Churchdown hill (30%). For those who prefer to stay on paved surfaces, the 21 controls in the village should provide plenty of challenge. If going off-road, some of the footpaths are a little muddy: bring suitable footwear. They’re mostly free of undergrowth, so shorts are fine.
Event details
- We’ll be meeting in Chapel Hay car park in Churchdown (free parking). Aim to arrive by 18:40 to register in time for the mass start at 19:00.
- Cost: £5 seniors, £2 juniors (note: juniors must be accompanied)

- paths and roads (black)
- open spaces (orange)
- woods (green): keep to the footpaths in the woods
Format
The race takes the form of a 60 minute score course, in which you collect as many points as you can. There are 30 checkpoints:
- checkpoints 1-10, worth 10 points
- checkpoints 11-20, worth 20 points
- checkpoints 21-30, worth 30 points
You lose 10 points for every minute or part minute you are late back, after the permitted 60. The map on your phone will be PIN protected, and you will be given the PIN, together with a paper map, a minute or two before the start.
