As Newnham is quite a small village, and the surrounding countryside is not well suited to MapRunning, this is a course with a difference! Pay careful attention to these instructions to get the best out of what is a lovely course.
The course consists of two sets of controls - odd numbered ones, and even numbered ones. The standard scoring scheme still applies, but the control numbers are higher than normal(though the scores are not - still 10-30 per control), the higher the number the bigger the score, but penalties for late finishing are also higher(30 points per minute!!). The idea is that you choose one set to start with - can be odds or evens - and you visit those until such time as you choose to swap sets; so start on Evens, for example, then swap at some point in your hour to Odds. Or vice versa. In practise you don't have to swap; you could just be happy doing all of one set. However, you must follow these rules to establish which set you are starting on, and how to change sets:
- Assume you want to start on Evens. You must visit either two consecutive even numbered controls, or two of the first three you visit must be even. So you could visit 10, 12, or 10, 11, 12, and that would set Evens as your first block of controls.
- You can now visit as many Evens as you wish, and can pass single odd numbered controls en route between two Evens, but must not pass 2 consecutive Odds, as that would switch you to the Odds set! These singles don't count in your score, but wont affect your progress on the Evens set.
- When ready to change, you MUST, in this example, do 2 consecutive Odds. Thereafter you are on Odds, and you can pass as many Evens as you wish, in any order, without affecting your collection of Odd controls; again they just wont count in your score.
Please note that this course requires MapRun v7 - just called MapRun - to be installed on your phone. If you have an earlier version - MapRunF or MapRun6 - uninstall it and install MapRun, which is the current version(7).
