07/07/2022 - Cleeve Hill Footpaths 2022
A change of scene, and map, for this race on Cleeve Hill, using the map updated for the British Night Championships. The map will be standard ISOM O-map, A4, waterproof, 1:10.000.
We will be using the Golf Club car park, and the club bar will be open until 8pm, so come early(you can start from 6pm), have a run, and then analyse how you could have done better over a beer in the bar.

Grid Reference(Golf Club): - eg SO989275,
The start location will be in the Quarry Car park.
The Area
Open grassland with gorse areas and a very few trees. This event will be based around the Golf Course Club House area of the common sticking to the North and West aspects of the hill.
Because of the terrain (ie. no lamp posts!) there will be description lists identifying the features available to aid locating the control sites.
Timing and Fees
Starts from 1800 to 1900. Remember the Golf Club bar closes around 8pm, so try and come early so that you can enjoy a drink and a chat after your run.
To guarantee a map, you will need to pre-enter via Fabian4: this is open until midnight on Tuesday 5 July. A few extra maps will be available for entry on the day, but don't rely on this!
Entry fees: £5 seniors, £2 juniors. Competitors aged under-14 must be accompanied. The fee covers third party liability insurance, a map printed on waterproof paper, and post-run cake!
We may or may not be able to take card payments, so bring cash if planning to enter on the day.
The Course
It’s a one hour score event using the MapRun app:
-
Checkpoints 1-10 are worth 10 points.
-
Checkpoints 11-20 are worth 20 points.
-
Checkpoints 21-30 are worth 30 points.
Score as many points as you can within an hour. If you’re late getting back, there’s a 10 point penalty per minute over.
You'll be issued with a waterproof map, A4, scale 1:10,000, before you start.
Please make sure you’ve installed MapRun6 before the event. If you haven’t used MapRun before, don’t worry – it’s easy to use, and we have full details on getting started.
You should download the course to your phone ideally before coming to the event, as sometimes there is little or no phone signal once there. The course will be published a week or two before the event, and once published you can download the course either by finding it in the MapRun6 app in the UK/Gloucestershire/Current Series folder, by scanning a QR code with your MapRun6 phone, or by tapping a course link with your MapRun6 phone. These options will be added here once the event has been published.
MapRunG (Garmin watch) users: if you have MapRun6, you do not need the event PIN number to download the course to your watch. This means you can download the course before your arrive at the event, in case there is no phone signal there.
Safety
- Apart from the lane to and from the start, the course is completely ‘off road’ within the boundaries of Cleeve Common. This means that we can accept people over the age of 14 to run unaccompanied. Children younger than 14 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
