British Orienteering have today issued guidance for event organisers and competitors on the Covid-19 outbreak. You can read this in full on the BOF website here.
The CompassSport Cup heat at Cranham is still going ahead, unless this guidance changes tomorrow – Saturday 14 March. In particular, we recommend that anyone with symptoms associated with the virus do not attend the event. Regarding confined spaces at the event, we leave the decision on using a club tent to each club. Because of the forecast for heavy rain in the morning, NGOC will have a number of tents erected for shelter of officials and equipment at the start location and download, which we ask participants to pass through as quickly as possible.
We are taking the following precautions:
- The start will be set up using as much space as we have available(which is quite a lot), allowing you to keep a reasonable distance from others in the start boxes.
- You are asked not to crowd or approach the call up point until your call up time appears on the call up clock, which will be positioned well in advance of the start boxes. Please do not loiter around the clock and clear stations, as many are wont to do at events.
- We hope and expect to have results uploaded to the NGOC website in near to real time, dependent on phone signal, so there will hopefully be no need to hang around the results display watching how your club is faring. You can see results from your car!
- Given extensive panic buying of advised goods such as hand sanitisers etc we have very limited supplies of these, and ask that you bring your own.
Whilst the CompassSport Cup is meant to be an informal and sociable event, we wont mind if no one talks to us, and you all clear off as fast as you can afterwards…..and if you don’t, we may not talk to you anyway! We are looking forward to seeing you though. You wont catch anything in the forest, other than a good soaking, if the forecast is to be believed.
