The 2022 NGOC League
Congratulations to all the 2022 League winners, but a special mention for Seth Lawson, second on Green but still only M14, sam Horsfall winning Yellow, and Hannah abd Katie Agombar second and third on Orange.
Some facts about the series. These are rough numbers; they don't take account of non-scoring runs, people running on different courses during the series, and organiser's bonus scores.
- James Wilkinson is the only person to run in every event in the series, although a further 6 got into double figures
- There were 1,602 scoring runs during the year, so perhaps nearer 700 in all, if non-scoring runs are included, by about 750 runners, allowing for some who ran in more than one class during the year. However about 440 people scored in one event only, and about a further 130 only managed to score in 2 races. So clearly we have room for improvement in terms of attracting people to come more often.
- The highest points score, 1395 points, was achieved by James Agombar(M14, NGOC) on Short Green on May Hill, with Simon Barker(M65, IND) second with 1366 at the same event(his only run, and I suspect a local with good knowledge of Newent Woods), and Andy Monro third with 1360 at Cranham(definitely local knowledge there!)
Upcoming Competitions
Until now we have run the NGOC League as our only competitive race series, although the Terry Bradstock Trophy, a competition few have probably heard of and even fewer have any idea how it works, has been a long standing if largely unknown second competition in the club.
In 2023 we propose to change that; The Terry Bradstock Trophy will be re-launched, with a longer list of qualifying events(until now only a small handful of often distant events counted in the trophy calculations), a rather less opaque scoring system, and greater publicity. We also plan to launch a midweek MapRun Gloucestershire League, to run through the year, much as the NGOC league does, and scored using points scored per km run as a measure of fitness, acuity in route selection, and ability to navigate efficiently and so minimise distance run. More details on both of these competitions will appear shortly, and both are planned to start in the New year.
