First of all huge thanks to everyone who came to the Relay yesterday, and in particular to the helpers who were there very early to set everything up, and then again later, in the rain, to pack it all up again. All names too many to mention, but particularly Bob Teed and Ian Phillips, grass cutters, for their efforts on Friday to prepare the ground and parking, Hils on parking, Carol and Paul on registration and computing, Bob and Ian again, and Collette, on set up, and wettest of all, Ginny, Richard, Clive and John Fallows on control collecting.
Although a relatively small entry, it proved a convivial and mainly sunny event, without too many problems either out on the courses, or in map issue etc. I hope you all enjoyed the courses, and managed to avoid the worst of the bracken; it is very difficult, in my view, to get the vegetation screens right in an area like Chestnuts Hill, particularly as it develops rapidly during the Summer months, and one cant be quite sure how it will be on race day, when planning some weeks beforehand. Apologies to those who found themselves running unexpected courses, either due to our standard age class allocations, or because we missed requests for specific courses in the entry system. We have got into the habit nowadays of keeping entries open as late as we can, to give you the greatest flexibility in deciding whether to come or not. Given the amount of set up work needed for a relay such as this, we should in future close entries a couple of days earlier, do the team and course allocations, and then publish those so that people have time to send us corrections before the day.
Finally, as the heavens opened everyone headed off sharpish back to their cars, leaving me with various items of lost/left behind property….
- A BOK windproof jacket
- A multi-coloured picnic blanket
- A camping chair
Email me to claim these. I will take them to the Cleeve Hill League race on 22 July, so enter that and you can collect there!
