We’re putting together a team to take part in Beat The Street, a summer-long event taking place throughout Gloucester.
- From 26 June to 8 August, there’ll be 93 Beat Boxes spread around the city.
- You’ll need a card, which you can pick up from various libraries, leisure centres or the main ASDA.
- Once you have the card, you can register it on the Beat the Street website and join the NGOC team.
When the event has begun, you score points by making journeys between Beat Boxes.
- Start by visiting any Beat Box and tapping your card
- Then walk, run or cycle to any other Beat Box within one hour to score 10 points.
- Repeat as many times as you like. You can revisit Beat Boxes you’ve visited before (as long as you’ve visited a different box in between).
If you’re wondering about the locations of the Beat Boxes, we’ve plotted them on a giant maprun-style map. For easier printing, here are some A4 PDFs of certain sections:
- Central Gloucester
- South Gloucester: Quedgeley, Kingsway and Tuffley
- North Gloucester: Longlevens and Kingsholm
- East Gloucester: Barnwood, Abbeymead and part of Abbeydale
- Southeast Gloucester: Matson and Abbeydale
If you’re interested in keeping up-to-date, let us know via this form. We’re planning to set up some informal gatherings over the summer to collect some points. The more people that join the team, the better: it doesn’t matter if you can only do a small amount; everyone’s contribution adds up.
We’ll be gathering at Abbeydale community centre at 6:40pm on Thursday 4 July, for a run of about an hour. This will give options for collecting boxes in the East and Southeast Gloucester areas.
