As you’ll all be aware on Saturday 27th November we host the British Night Orienteering Championships on Cleeve Hill, using the golf club as our base for the evening. This is a major event in British Orienteering terms – a level A event – something we don’t often stage, and it’s important that we put on a good show, and ensure that everyone goes away with a great feeling about the event and NGOC as a club. It’s also a great opportunity for those new to the club, or with less experience of volunteering than some of us, to see how a major event works, and to contribute to its success; although it’s a major event, in practise it’s quite small scale, compared to something like the JK or the Scottish 6 Days, so a great opportunity to see how it all works end to end.
We need as much help as we can get, so please take the trouble to read the notes below on what’s involved, and then click on the link at the bottom to add your name to the list of volunteers for the event. Don’t worry if you have no experience……you’ve all been to events, seen what happens, and no doubt thought from time to time that you could do better, so here’s your chance!
Things to Note
- The volunteer list shows defined roles, based on my estimate of what we need. Put yourself down for one if you wish, or just add yourself to the Extras at the bottom, and we can sort out what you do later.
- If you plan to run, you need to say so in the box provided. As the event has a quite short(90 or 120 minute) start window, you will generally need to help first and then run afterwards, in which case you will have a punching start at the end of or just beyond the main start window(18:30-20:00 or 20:30 depending on entry numbers). That said, some early parking roles will allow you to start earlier than that, but still after you have helped.
- If your name is already on the list, that’s based on previous or recent discussions. Change role or remove your name if necessary.
Now that you’ve absorbed all that, please click here to add your name to the volunteer list.
If you have any queries, would like some advice on what’s involved, or for example would like to get involved with something you haven’t done before, such as download, email me and we can come up with a plan.
