While we’re still unable to meet for events, we have a range of courses for you to run in your own time. These range from streets to the forest; some have permanent markers, while others are virtual courses using the MapRun app.
Virtual orienteering courses
Over the last few weeks we’ve been setting up some virtual courses for orienteering training in the terrain, using the MapRun app:
- Leckhampton Hill, near Cheltenham. Three courses from our NGOC League event in 2019.
- Lightmoor, Forest of Dean. Three courses from our NGOC League event in 2020.
- New: Nottingham Hill, between Winchcombe and Cheltenham. Three short ‘MicrO’ courses on a brand new small-scale 1:1000 map.
Keep an eye on the website for more additions.
Permanent orienteering courses
Meanwhile our permanent courses have physical markers at each control location, usually consisting of a number/letter combination.
Find details of the courses, including printable maps, via the British Orienteering website. Where possible we’ve created MapRun courses for these as well (in the UK/Gloucestershire/Training folder).
The courses are:
- Pittville Park, Cheltenham. Newly updated + MapRun
- Crickley Hill Country Park. Newly updated + MapRun
- Gloucester Park. Newly updated
- High Meadow Woods, Forest of Dean (note that this course is partly in Wales, where the Government rules are different – you should only do this course if you’re local to it)
MapRuns
Our regular MapRun street events are also all still available: we have over 40 courses now, and you can find the list here.
