The MapRun League is a friendly competitive league including all MapRuns in the year – much like our premiere NGOC league, but just for MapRuns. By creating a league we hope that more people will be tempted to compete in more events.
There will be a varying number of events each year, depending on how many we can fit in and find organisers for, and the qualifying number of events will usually be half the total number of events in the year, plus 1. So for 12 events, your best 7 scores will count towards your overall score. Scoring will be based on points scored per Km run; a person scoring the average number of points per Km for the event will score 1000 points, and your points will be calculated according to how your score compares to the average for the event.
We will try and ensure a fair spread of MapRuns across our patch, recognising that weekday evening events can be tricky or expensive to get to for many of us. It’s likely that the dark evening winter events will tend in the main to be clustered around Cheltenham and Gloucester, while the light evening summer events will take in more rural terrain, with clusters either side of the Severn. As in the NGOC league, event organisers will score points for the event they organise, the score being either 1000pts or the best of their previous scores in the current league, whichever is higher.
Of course to have a reasonable number of events we need organisers for them! Planning a MapRun is a very straightforward business, and there is lots of help available from Tom Cochrane and Pat Macleod, so if you know of a good area for a MapRun, or just fancy a go anyway, email us at maprun@ngoc.org.uk and we’ll sort out an event for you.
