Innsworth 2022
To kick off our Spring MapRun series, we return to Innsworth/Longlevens, scene of one our earliest MapRuns back in 2018. This time, though, we focus mainly on Innsworth, with a base at the local Tesco store, and the course covering mainly the suburban streets between Innsworth Barracks and the Gloucester by-pass.

Directions and Parking
Parking and assembly will be at Tesco Churchdown, on the B4063. Park towards the far back right of the carpark, to avoid getting an early start when ready to run, and to keep out of the way of other shoppers. As we are using the store carpark you should also go in and buy something.

The Area
Mainly fairly quiet and very largely flat residential streets, but with a couple of significant through routes where care is needed when crossing. There are ample pavements, and there is no need anywhere to run in the road. The course extends across the Gloucester Northern by-pass, which is strictly out of bounds, and easily crossed by one road and one pedestrian bridge. There is no need to even think about crossing the bypass itself other than via these bridges.
There are some field and woodland paths which could be wet and muddy, but no undergrowth, so running in shorts is fine.
Timing and Fees
Starts from 1830 to 1900.
To guarantee a map, you will need to pre-enter via Fabian4: this is open until midnight on Tue 5 April (note this is a day earlier than for recent events). A few extra maps will be available for entry on the day, but don't rely on this!
Entry fees: £5 seniors, £2 juniors. Competitors aged under-16 must be accompanied. The fee covers third party liability insurance, a map printed on waterproof paper, and post-run cake!
The course
It’s a one hour score event using the MapRun app:
-
Checkpoints 1-10 are worth 10 points.
-
Checkpoints 11-20 are worth 20 points.
-
Checkpoints 21-30 are worth 30 points.
Score as many points as you can within an hour. If you’re late getting back, there’s a 10 point penalty per minute over.
You'll be issued with a waterproof map, A4, scale 1:10,000, before you start.
Please make sure you’ve installed MapRun6 before the event. If you haven’t used MapRun before, don’t worry – it’s easy to use, and we have full details on getting started.
You should download the course to your phone ideally before coming to the event, as sometimes there is little or no phone signal once there. You can download the course either by finding it in the MapRun6 app in the UK/Gloucestershire/Current Series folder, by scanning this QR code with your MapRun6 phone:
,
or by tapping this link on your MapRun6 phone:
MapRunG (Garmin watch) users: if you have MapRun6, you do not need the event PIN number to download the course to your watch. This means you can download the course before your arrive at the event, in case there is no phone signal there.
Safety
- The course is located in an urban environment necessitating many road crossings, so under 16s must be accompanied.
- The Gloucester Northern bypass must only be crossed via one of the two bridges.
- Particular care is needed crossing the main through routes in the event area.
- Although the evenings are getting lighter you should wear bright or reflective clothing. A torch may be useful if you are starting late.
